President’s Report to the 2010 AGM
Dear members,
We have all struggled through a very hard cold winter and likewise the club has had quite a difficult year financially.
The Bar and Finance Committee, chaired by Mr. Paul Scoble and Mr Robert Gibb have successfully managed to keep the bar prices stable once again, however there will be an increase in prices due to the recent tax increase brought about by the budget.
Mr Paul Scoble and the Social Committee have put on some successful evenings, including events such as St. George's Day, Halloween, the Christmas Draw and New Year's Eve, to name but a few.
The House Committee, led by Mr Andy Cunningham have refurbished the main clubroom with a new décor and furniture fixtures & fittings to a very high standard. When finances allow they are going to carry out their next challenge which is the upstairs games room.
The sport section still enjoy all their individual events including snooker, billiards, pool and darts. There has been some successful fishing trips. The “racing lads” enjoy their sport in the club with great enthusiasm as do the football supporters.
The senior members' outing was funded by a few members forming a co-operative headed by Mr Wyndham Ventham-Smith. The lunch was at Haywards Heath, followed by the rest of the day in Brighton. It was a most enjoyable day.
My sincere thanks to the Chairman, Mr Robert Gibb, Secretary, Mr Bill Adams, Treasurer, Mr Clive Scott and the committeemen for their dedicated time and hard work that goes towards the running of the club and to our most valued members for their support. I wish to convey my thanks to the steward, Alison, Carol and the bar staff for their dedicated work for the club.
This year I have great pleasure to announce five new life members: Mr R.J. Cooke, Mr Roger Hooker, Mr Shaun Knights, Mr Tim O'Riordan and Mr Neil Baxter.
Regrettably I announce the deaths of the following members; Mr John Donovan, Mr Ron Eastman, Mr Carl Farrah and Mr David Filbee.
I conclude my report by thanking everyone for their valued loyalty.
My thanks to you all.
Anthony Shackleford
President
